Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers stated they were notified by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official stated the incident made him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
