Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets fell 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half during an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

His teammate stepped on the footwear of the big man, and he promptly went down to the court holding his leg.

The veteran player, that tops the NBA season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the contest before suffering the setback.

Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the injury.

"Right away, Jokic knew something was wrong," stated Nuggets head coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who suffers an injury, that's difficult, especially somebody as important as Jokic. More information will come on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust as a team. Of course, at this moment, I'm focused about him personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event of that nature."
