The Renowned Musician Urges Support to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The single was laid down following a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The notable list of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a selection of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The single features a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the project have emphasized that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
