People have come together across the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will not create a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but events still were held across the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the families themselves, it was broadcast across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of mediated discussions to review the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking representative familiar with the talks said that an late session of mediated discussions started at evening in Egypt.

The representative stated the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid differences over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are striving to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Essential Matters in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance provision
  • Post-war administration of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and dozens more were abducted by Hamas militants - told: "No location feels like home now and until every captive return no one will be secure."

"When we see everyone home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to recover," she concluded.

In front of the leader's home in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Activist one woman remarked: "We must do any agreement necessary for the captives to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Research now consistently show that approximately seventy percent of Israelis prefer the conflict to end in exchange for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the location of the music event, grieving people assembled to pay their respects.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli attacks carried on.

In the main city, bombardments were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the western district, area and zone districts and in the east side district of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"When the night comes, the anxiety arrives with it," displaced urban resident a local woman, whose young son was killed by an Israeli air strike last year, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are lying together, holding each other, especially my little child who places his head on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city said another two victims had been transported. One of them was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid to the southern area, medical staff said.

Gaza's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
