Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with performances like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
