Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
