Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was convicted of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the move to detain the elderly politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.
