Realistically, they'd hope for an contest for the urn in Australia where they still have a chance to win back the Ashes following the initial matches.

That will not be happening this time, though, after Australia's crushing victory by 82 runs in Adelaide left the home side with a 3-0 lead for the fourth successive Ashes series on home turf.

England's famous supporters' group, the vocal contingent, have a large group flying out for the last two matches in New South Wales and Victoria.

In addition, there are tour groups who will spend the Christmas period down under, as well as families and friends planning a dream holiday.

Fans with Booked Tickets

A group of four supporters are among those affected.

The four siblings had their flights and tickets secured for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", dreaming of a long-awaited triumph.

Instead, they have watched Australia dismantle the tourists in just a short period from their residence in the north of England.

"All my colleagues has been giving me grief that the series is done for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"The hope was that we would have a meaningful contest upon our arrival."

Lowered Expectations

Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of securing a first win in 15 years for a series win in Australia ahead of the tour.

But they are now facing the prospect of extending their winless run in the country to 19 matches when the fourth Test gets under way in the MCG on Christmas Day.

The tourists - and their followers - will be desperate to avoid a clean sweep.

One sibling noted the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach the positive style of play in the past couple of seasons had "reinvigorated" the longest format for English supporters.

But the Ryding siblings said they had realistic outlooks for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are requesting from the players is "a show of spirit".

"Every pundit alludes to it, but it all comes down to psychological strength. 'The aggressive approach has been elevated to a term now that is just, like, nonsense cricket," added Rory.

"Over the course of five days, you should apply yourself. Wafting outside 'outside the line has never featured in the fundamentals, and that is mainly the fault the frontline batsmen."

Future Prospects

When questioned if he believed England will win a match in the current series, one fan responded: "It appears the Australians are superior currently."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that stands up for England and turns the game."

Despite the scoreline, the group remains excited about the trip.

"It will be a great time anyway," added another sibling. "We have to go with that mindset."

"Of course, it's disappointing we don't have more to play for, but we have invested a significant amount by now."

"We plan to savor celebrating the holidays out there. Additionally, it's our first experience traveling at this time of year."

A schoolteacher, Katie is intent on maximizing the lengthy journey as part of her Christmas holidays.

"As a backup plan, there's always golf to fall back on," Katie concluded.
