Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
