A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
